Ballroom Dancing is SOOOO Much Better than a Gym Membership – Part 1

There are different ways to get and stay in shape. Some hit the courts and others become gym rats. If neither of those options work for you, we have a great idea. Try ballroom dancing lessons!

While many don’t immediately consider Ballroom Dance when they think of “working out,” science says they should! While running on a treadmill can be really boring, moving your body to your favorite music is not only fun but offers many health benefits.

There are many reasons why Ballroom Dancing is better than a gym membership. At Arthur Murray, we know the reasons better than anyone!

Here, we share two amazing reasons to start learning to ballroom dance. We’ll blog about some more next week.

The Fun Factor

Let’s be honest. Going to the gym requires motivation. If it’s not something you really enjoy, it’s not likely that you’ll stick with it. It’s hard enough to fit exercise into your routine when you love doing it. If it feels like a chore, you will quickly begin to treat it like a chore.

Dancing is different. Studies show that when you love your workout, your body responds positively to the exercises. So, because ballroom dancing is so much fun, it no longer feels like a workout. However, it’s a GREAT workout!

Leave boredom in your gym bag!

The gym can be monotonous and boring. Weight training circuits and a sea of ellipticals do little for social interaction. When was the last time the stair master was exciting? The basic routine is just — that a routine. There is little or no depth to it.  Boring.

Now dancing on the other hand, or foot as the case may be, has so many different styles, steps and free forms, not to mention the cool outfits. It engages all the senses while it works your muscles, too. It’s an activity. An experience. Not a chore.

Every style of dance has its own different moves. And time flies as you try a variety of styles, while listening to great music with your partner. When was the last time you looked at the clock at the gym and were surprised that so much time had flown by? Never.

Dancing lets you experience something that is actually great for your body and overall health that you will actually enjoy.

When it comes down to it, if you asked your body, we think it would likely choose exciting ballroom dancing over a gym workout any day of the week.
