4 Ways to Get Out of a Ho-Hum Rut

Do you ever feel like you’re in a rut, with everyday feeling like the one before? You get up, get dressed, go to work, eat dinner and watch TV. It’s time to climb out of that rut and do something for yourself! You’ll feel revitalized and ready to take on the world. It can all be yours if you are willing to muster up the confidence, choose an activity and promise yourself to dedicate some time to it.

Here are four ideas to get you started down the path to a whole new  and revitalized outlook.

Get Involved!

There are plenty of things you like to do but perhaps you’ve just not made the time to do them. Find a social group — check out Meetup.com for ideas — and attend an event. You don’t have to dedicate your life to this group; you can start with one activity and go from there. Humans are inherently social. We need to talk to people and enjoy time with others. It’s perfectly normal to be picky about the people you hang with but there is a lot of comfort in being around people who are like-minded. Joining a social group is great way to climb out of a funk.

Change Your Wake Up Time

Become a morning person! Getting up early allows you to enjoy the sunrise each day and puts you ahead of the game when working on your daily to-do list. You will be productive, more optimistic and feel less stressed. Also, when you embrace the day a bit earlier you may be able to feel a little less guilty about taking up residence on the couch later in the evening.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteering is great not only for your community but also your self-esteem and confidence. Why not step up and help to make your community a better place to live, while also improving your health. There are plenty of ways you can volunteer. You can work at a soup kitchen, collect clothes for the less fortunate, drive seniors to doctor appointments, join a fire department, etc.

Become Active

One of the best things you can do to pull yourself out of a funk is to become active. You don’t need to join a gym or go for crazy runs each day. May we suggest ballroom dancing? You may not have ever considered dancing as exercise but it’s been proven to be just as effective — and in some cases even more beneficial — than a walk or time at the gym. It’s fun and there’s the added benefit of never having to “sit this one out” at your next social gathering.

Dancing can be cathartic for people of all ages. It’s a great way to get healthy, lose weight, and improve your balance. Contact Arthur Murray today to reserve your complimentary first lesson.
