3 Steps to a Happier You!

You’re a wonderful person just as you are. However, as great as you already are, we all know that bettering yourself improves your quality of life and gives you something to work toward. We all need that.

Sure but that’s easier said than done. So where do you start? Sometimes we need some help or inspiration.

1. Break it Down. 

Dance is a metaphor for life. Just like we approach learning a new dance by breaking it down into manageable, easy steps, it’s really that simple with achieving goals. Break it down.

Goals motivate us and drive us to achieve great things. However, reaching the goal can be overwhelming. All too often we strive for great big goals. But never reach them. Why?

Unrealistic goals.

Be realistic and reasonable and accept that you can not go from couch potato to marathon runner by next weekend.

Sure, you can have those great big goals as long as you have a plan to achieve it. Breaking it down into bite size pieces, just like steps in dancing, helps you create a routine that propels you to meet your goal. And that may ultimately change your life! 

2.“Do unto others”

It’s considered “The Golden Rule:” the principle of treating others the way you want to be treated. And while it’s a basic philosophy found in many religions and cultures, we are all likely familiar with it.

In our harried lives when we have too much to do and never enough time to do it, we often forget this basic principle. Face it- we have all been reactive, short tempered, said or done things we regret and acted selfishly. It happens. At the end of the day though, there is enough anger and negativity in the world.

Counter it with acts of kindness and gratitude and your world will be a better place. Some may say it’s just an old cliché, but at the end of the day, what goes around comes around. It’s really quite simple. Treat people with kindness and respect. Kindergarten 101.

No matter your beliefs, there is one underlying truth:  People are good, and they deserve to be happy. “Whatever good things you want done to yourself, do to others.” It’s the Law of Attraction — in action.

3. Stop waiting for the perfect time.

Life is short. There is never a perfect time. Do it and do it now.

People spend their lives waiting. Waiting for the right time, delaying what makes them happy until they feel they “deserve it.” Passing by special moments for the practical ones, delaying the good times for the productive or profitable ones.

Stop for a moment and consider how many people ever looked back on their lives and said they wished they spent more time at the office?
