No Dance Partner? No problem!
Most people think that since ballroom dancing is done with a partner, you need to have one to get started. That’s one of the many myths about ballroom dancing we at Arthur Murray are happy to dispel.
The fact is, you don’t need a partner to learn Ballroom dancing or to practice.
Believe it or not, a fairly even mix of singles and couples attend dance classes at the nine Boston Region Arthur Murray Dance locations. So even if you come alone, you will get to learn to dance with a partner.
While we are at it, let’s quickly kick another myth to the curb. You don’t need to have dancing “talent” nor do you need to have so much confidence that you can take on the world of dance in one day! In fact, building confidence and self esteem is one of the major benefits of learning to dance.
Contact Arthur Murray today and schedule your first dance lesson! It’s free and we promise you’ll love it. In fact, we see it all the time. You walk in and dance out! We aren’t kidding. The very best way to boost your confidence is to take the first step and come in by yourself. It’s natural to feel nervous but one of our trained, friendly and patient ballroom instructors will help you get used to everything!
You’ll feel like you can really do it in only one lesson! Just get started! We will talk about timing, technique and foot work so you can learn how to find the beats in the music. Then, you’ll start learning how to move around the dance floor and, finally, you’ll practice your technique.
And we can assure you that you won’t be dancing alone in the corner the whole time. We have weekly group sessions and parties where you can test out what you have learned. There will be plenty of others, just like you, who are looking for a partner to get out there on the dance floor
In addition, in most group dance lessons, you will be rotating partners throughout the session. This helps everybody learn to dance with partners of different heights, hand pressure, lead types and skill levels. Ultimately, the variety of partners can make you a stronger, more flexible dancer.
The truth is: many of our students who came without a partner report feeling much less anxiety than they may have feared. When you come alone, you do so without the competition that some couples experience, thus making it much less pressure to perform.
So remember, you’re supposed to dance like no one’s watching! Because they’ll not! (Except for the instructors, of course!) So, don’t hesitate. Contact us today to schedule your first free lesson and find out all about the dances we teach and the benefits of ballroom dancing.
