Medical Study Reveals Moderate-Intensity Dancing May Improve Heart Health
The results of the study, conducted by Australian researchers, were published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
According to an article on the subject published by Harvard Medical School, the study followed 48,000 people in the United Kingdom and asked them about their walking and dancing habits. None of the survey participants had been diagnosed with heart disease prior to entering the study.
After a decade, researchers checked in on the study participants and the results were fascinating!
“Moderate-intensity dancing was linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. This benefit was slightly better than that seen with walking, and possibly stronger in women than men.”
In addition to the full body benefits of higher intensity workouts, researchers also concluded dancing provides significant stress relief and affords participants the opportunity to become more social -- two more heart-healthy reasons to dance!
