2 Left Feet? No Problem!

So, you’ve thought about dance lessons, but your two left feet got you stuck! Luckily, getting started with dancing is way simpler, and less traumatic, than you may be thinking! Here are some tips to get those two left feet moving in the right direction!

Step 1: Quit delaying! How many times have you put things off because you’re “too busy”? “Too busy” is an excuse and we quite frankly do not believe in people being “too busy” to dance! We get it though – sometimes it is hard to find the time to enjoy the little things. However, think of all of those little things that you do make time for. Do you enjoy those things? Are you scared of those things? Most people use “too busy” as an outlet! How will you ever know if you could enjoy something if you are always “too busy” to give it a try? We promise that after your first dance lesson with us, that you will make the time in your schedule for some dancing!

Step 2:  Forget what you’ve heard. No, you do not need a partner! The best way to learn how to dance is actually by yourself! By receiving one-on-one attention from your instructor, you will be able to retain more information and learn faster! Not to say learning with a partner is bad, but learning by yourself allows you to focus on what you are doing with your feet rather than focusing on your partner stepping all over your feet! Yes, you can learn to dance no matter what age you are or what kind of physical shape you are in! Our students range anywhere from 10 years old to 80 years old! Many of our students use dancing as exercise, while some use dancing to challenge their current fitness routine! Yes, you can find your right foot at Arthur Murray. Our proven teaching system has worked for many hopeless left-footers, and if you are reading this we are confident it could work for you too!

Step 3: Why do you, or should you, want to learn how to dance? We all have reasons why we want to learn certain things. Me personally, I took up boxing not for the self-defense, but to let out some steam after a long work day. I tried yoga and I tried the gym, but there was something about that punching bag that got me! A lot of our students come to us for many different reasons. Some want to lose weight, while some want to socialize with a new crew. Whether you are in crisis mode and need to learn how to dance for your cooperate party to impress your boss, or you just feel like bringing some sexy back to yourself, it’s going to take YOUR motivation to get you walking through our door! We will then take care of the rest!

Step 4: Make your move. This step is always the scariest, but we promise we will make it simple, quick, and painless! Call us, email us, tweet us, or just stop into one of our 8 Boston area locations to inquire! From there, we will help you schedule your complimentary first lesson, answer any questions you may have, and give you all the info you will need for that first dance lesson. We’ll let you know everything from what shoes to wear to what you can expect during your first lesson. We normally recommend scheduling your first lesson 2-3 days after you contact us! Why? Because we are SO excited to get you started right away! Again, “too busy” won’t fly with us!

Step 5: Commit to it! You have already done the hardest step – calling us and scheduling your lesson! On the day of your appointment, we encourage you to show up 10-15 minutes prior so we can give you a tour around the dance studio and get to know you a little better! After that, you’ll be in great hands out on the dance floor with one of our awesome instructors! Don’t be intimated by others on the floor and don’t get discouraged if you’re not getting the step right away! Every student (and instructor) you will see has started at the same place you will be! Your instructor will take it at a pace that is comfortable for you and will probably have you laughing, while dancing, the whole time!
